Vestas Power Solutions (VPS) is where new product ideas are developed, matured, improved, and tested. Within Vestas Power Solutions (VPS), you'll find our department, Assembly & Finish, as part of Aerodynamic & Mechanical.
Our department holds responsibility for establishing sturdy and consistent procedures encompassing Blade assembly, finishing, painting, and add-ons processes for both on- and offshore blades. This unit also plays an integral role in developing novel blade technologies while providing support to both internal and external blade manufacturing facilities. The cohesive team, consisting of over 25 enthusiastic members, is strategically located across Lem (Denmark), Isle of Wight (UK), and Chennai (India).
Our primary role revolves around designing blade components in a manner that guarantees streamlined, reproducible, and resilient manufacturing for our production divisions. We maintain a dual focus on delivering top-tier quality while upholding cost competitiveness. Our sphere of accountability extends to the end-to-end management of processes related to blade assembly, finishing, painting, and add-ons. This encompasses an array of tasks, including comprehensive engagement with Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), process validations, formulation of manufacturing requirement specifications, in addition to working extensively with CATIA models and blade drawings.

Responsibilities
Your role involves close collaboration with various departments within Vestas, including Blade Structures, Protective Functions (lightning and de-icing systems), Blade Materials, Shell and Web Manufacturing, Blade Tooling, Blade Factories, and more. Your main focus will be on ensuring the feasibility of blade design and manufacturing across the entire value chain. Your key responsibilities encompass:
- Conducting thorough assessments to ensure that all new on- and offshore blades align with manufacturing process requisites prior to their transition to Vestas' manufacturing units. This necessitates your presence on the shop floor at our blade pilot manufacturing facilities in Lem or Nakskov, Denmark. You will guide the production team, ensuring that the desired quality standards are achieved
- Developing and maintaining blade process documentation, including but not limited to Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEA), process validations, and process specifications for both new and existing blades. Gathering feedback from production and other stakeholders to conceptualize, narrow down, and mitigate risks associated with blade manufacturing processes
- Ensuring seamless translation of Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements from the product level into design and process documentation
- Verifying the alignment of blade manufacturing processes with our CATIA models and drawings
- Propelling modifications through our Change Management system. Establishing strong collaborative ties with other departments to ensure the establishment of dependable and resilient manufacturing processes
- Strategizing, evaluating, and implementing methods, processes, and techniques that enhance process performance, reliability, and maintainability of Vestas' blades. Throughout this, your focus remains on health and safety, quality, and cost considerations Testing and validating new blade manufacturing concepts within laboratory settings and subscale production environments
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position should have the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, chemical, or production engineering, or related fields
- Practical experience in Painting and Finishing Processes
- Substantial hands-on knowledge in composite manufacturing, including gluing processes and large component assembly. Practical background in blade development or manufacturing. Proven history of optimization, process development, and project management within manufacturing
- Understanding of manufacturing-tooling relationship
- Proficiency in thermoset resin systems like epoxy or polyurethane chemistry
- Familiarity with NDT methods (thermography, ultrasonic testing, shearography). Good understanding of PFMEA, process validation, and process requirement specification Experience in experimental design, data analysis, statistical methods (Six Sigma knowledge preferred)
